Gift Giving Season
It's that time again. And as a reminder to my dear readers, I have an Amazon wishlist chock full o' goodies. I mean, of course, if any of you are so inclined to get me a little something. If not, take a look anyway. It might give you some ideas for someone else.
Seriously, though. What are you? Cheap or something? You can't show a little love? What am I? Chopped liver?

Happy Thanksgiving
Be well and truly thankful for all that you have. It's more than you think.
Here are some turkey facts for you:
- Turkeys have been around for about 10 million years
- Ben Franklin thought that the bald eagle was an immoral scavenger. He proposed the turkey as the official bird of the U.S.
- The average weight of a turkey purchased at Thanksgiving is 15 pounds
- The wild turkey can fly short distances at speeds up to 55 m.p.h.
- Commercially raised turkeys cannot fly
- Turkey breeding has caused turkey breasts to grow so large that the turkeys often fall over
- According to the 2002 census, there were 8,436 turkey farms in the United States
- 45 million turkeys are eaten every Thanksgiving in the U.S.
- 22 million are eaten for Christmas
- Only male turkeys gobble. Hens make a clicking noise
- Since 1947, the National Turkey Federation has presented a live turkey and two dressed turkeys to the President. The President does not eat the live turkey. He "pardons" it and allows it to live out its days on a historical farm

Georgia governor prays for rain
"We've come together here simply for one reason and one reason only: To very reverently and respectfully pray up a storm," said Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Uh ... yeah.
Now that is some sure-as-hell responsible governing. When you let everyone and their brother pour untold gallons of water on their beautiful suburban lawns and fail to have even the slightest care about unchecked growth and sprawl the only obvious choice is to seek divine intervention. Right?
At least the Rev. Gil Watson attempted to place some correct blame:We have not been good stewards of our land. We have not been good stewards of our water. Lord, have mercy on your people, have mercy on us and grant us rain. Oh God, let rain fall on this land of Georgia.Yes, there is a drought. Yes, the people of Georgia are really starting to feel the affects of it. And no, it's not completely due to global warming or irresponsible rationing policies at the Army Corps of Engineers. But a prayer service? To pray for rain?
What's next?
"Dear Lord, we have not been good stewards of our mouths. Our dental hygiene habits are atrocious. We have not been dilligent in our fight against tooth decay. Lord, in your infinite mercy, please grant us a win in tonight's Pick 3 drawing. We have a feeling that 438 will do it for us, oh Lord. And, in your divine bounty, we shall pick up some Crest at the Piggly Wiggly. Amen."
I'm just cynical enough to believe that goood ol' Sonny is up for re-election next year, and this unmitigated publicity stunt is meant to strengthen his claim on the religiosos of the fine state of GA. Why fight the feds or enact tough legislation or ration when you can petition the Lord with prayer - on TV.1 Comments | Link to this post   posted by Teddy 10:43 AM
