Dead Again: Orville Quietly Goes Back to His Grave
I'm not the only one who was creeped out about this freakish zombie:
Apparently, the good chemists at ConAgra got past the gee-whiz excitement generated by the creative directors at ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky to finally express their discomfort with the reanimation of one their most cherished brand icons, Orville Redenbacher.
Orville may have shuffled off this mortal coil in 1995, but that didn't stop the exploitation of his image by the hype monsters at Crispin Porter. His undead doppleganger haunted the airwaves for a few months with little result other than a collective "WTF?" from TV viewers.
The article quotes a VP at ConAgra calling the campaign "a leap of faith." Translation: We didn't believe in it. And frankly, "Deadenbacher" is kind of creepy, but those Subserviant Chicken guys are pretty damn persuasive.
CPs bad creative only cost them $34 million as ConAgra moved the account, as well as Slim Jim, to another agency.2 Comments | Link to this post   posted by Teddy 10:00 AM

Michael Vick: Persona Non Grata
Sheesh! One little allegation of dog fighting ... okay, multiple felony counts, but still - and all of a sudden you're a pariah! What good is it to be rich and famous anymore if you can't get away with shit?
Here are the results of a search for Michael Vick on Nike.com:
I fought a dog once. I was 6. Our poodle was 9 and pretty irritable. I reached for his plastic chew toy and it was on!. We had a regular donnybrook behind the La-Z-Boy in the family room. After 3 rounds I didn't even know where I was anymore. My cut man, "Steelhand" Willy Jackson threw in the towel. If he hadn't, I would've never made it to the 1st grade. A year later we put that bitch to sleep. The dog, not Willy!
Thanks, Willy.
And thanks to you, Mike Vick. Thanks for showing us that all the money and fame in the world can't buy one ounce of good sense.

State furloughs 25,000
Of course they did. I'm headed to a Cook Forest State Park this weekend. I can only hope that this latest unpleasantness in Harrisburg will be settled by the weekend and that there are no lingering effects of the government shutdown. You know, like lost reservations or all the people who wanted to be there this week trying to get in next weekend.
It's a battle were the only real losers will be the citizens of PA. We are the ones going without state services for the duration. No pol will lose anything of course.Who whose side am I on you ask? In PA one should always be on the governor's side, regardless of political affiliation. We have the most corrupt, head-in-the-sand party hacks you could imagine in our state assembly.
Anyway, I'll send my very angry and disappointed kids to Harrisburg on Friday if park workers aren't back on the job. That'll learn 'em.Labels: Politics
