What is worse?
Lying to a grand jury about sex or lying to a grand jury about the reasons for starting a war?

Donating to Obama 08
I'm very excited to report that two people have now donated to the Barack Obama 08 campaign through my fundraising efforts.
With the "Decider" and Vice-Decider again calling opposition a lack of patriotism, it is clear that this administration is completely bereft of any new ideas - or any ideas for that matter - on how to handle the insane mess they've created in Iraq.
And with procedural stall tactics and threats of fillibuster, the Republicans in the Senate have shown that they lack the ability to lead on the issue as well. BTW, there are 21 Republican Senators up for re-election in 2008 so there could easily be a clean sweep of Republican laggards and boot lickers.
Donating to the Obama campaign is the best way to get a jump on that much needed change.
So that I don't sound like a partisan hack, the 12 Senate Democrats up for re-election in 2008 need to get their act together as well. Non-binding resolutions are not worth the paper they are printed on. The only way to affect real change is to introduce legislation that seeks to drastically curtail W's ability to continue waging this "war" without being held accountable.
Instead we get fear, inaction, and a political calculus that looks for a survivable position until the storm blows over. Let's not let that happen. Every day of inactivity costs lives (both U.S. and innocent Iraqis) and drains the treasury of funds needed here.
Please write your senators and tell them it is time to stand up and be counted. To do the right thing. To support our troops by having less of them killed. To hold this administration and its permissive congressional counterparts accountable for failings and misdeads that have lead down this destructive road.

Barack Obama 08
Over the weekend, I joined the campaign to help Senator Barack Obama (D, IL) become the next President of the United States.
I recognize many of the reasons why this might be a long-shot candidacy, if only for the money raising juggernaut of Hillary Clinton, but I believe that most, if not all of them, can be overcome by a man I believe to be the best candidate in the field.I have set a small goal of raising $500 for his campaign. I am asking anyone who reads this site to please donate and help me achieve this goal.
Please visit my Barack Obama Fundraising Page to contribute and to learn more about our best hope for a presidency that we can all be proud of.
You can also visit BarackObama.com to learn more about the senator and become involved in the campaign.

A Semiotic Look at Mooninites Over Massachusetts
Fear and Loathing in the Bay State
Being possessed of a liberal arts education, I eat this stuff up. Admittedly, some of it is blabber - I still have trouble with some aspects of feminist and psychoanalytic film theory. But I'm all about semiotics! (wow, that was a strange sentence.)
In this article, Dion Dennis, takes a look at the hysteria in Boston surrounding the so-called bomb scare, nee marketing stunt.
In it, he compares the recent hysteria with a well-known one from the Bay Colony's history, The Salem Witch Trials and throws in a bit of generational warfare that shows that Boomers learned nothing from the 60s.
It's not light reading so go slow :-)0 Comments | Link to this post   posted by Teddy 12:49 PM
Secret Government
This report by Bill Moyers ran on PBS in 1987. Apparently, very little has changed in 20 years, unless you count how much worse it has gotten. This is an astonishing report that documents the subversion democracy under the aegis of fighting communism.
The Red Scare has now, of course, been replaced by The War on Terror. The rest is more of the same ...

An Open Letter to the City of Boston
Dear Boston,
This is a cultish cartoon character. This is a popular children's toy from the 1970s. Editor's Note: I have never seen the aforementioned cartoon, nor have I ever owned a Lite Brite, despite repeated requests of my mom and numerous letters to Santa (sigh).
And this is the combination of the two. Not a bomb as you so hysterically thought. Lights, batteries, wires? Yes. Bomb? No. Let's remember. Just because you saw a monkey and it rained doesn't mean that every time you see a monkey it will rain. That is what we higher functioning primates call a logical fallacy. Comprende?
But now there are arrests, accusations and the threat of litigation against a major U.S. media conglomerate. Can't really critique that too much, though. Down with corporate media! But I digress ...
How could this be? Have we all forgotten how to have a good time? Or are we so caught up in paranoia and fear that we have lost the ability to distinguish threats from marketing? I guess so.
And why, dear Boston, did other major cities like Seattle, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago have these same lighted toys - for they can be nothing else - on their streets and sidewalks for weeks without a single problem, let alone the full-on police response generated in Beantown?
$750,000 in labor costs just to determine that the lighted signs posed no threat, aside from the prominent middle finger? Are you looking for restitution from Sean and Peter because you want to punish them for their alleged misdeeds or because you are incredibly frickin' embarrassed at your inability to distinguish fact from fiction? Can you really continue your charade of characterizing this stunt as a bomb hoax with a straight face? And if so, for how long?
How about we just drop further criminal charges against our erstwhile guerilla marketers, admit that your knee-jerk response was unwarranted, and we all go home a little bit older and whole lot wiser?
"Not a chance," you say. "We can't permit this kind of foolishness in a post 9/11 world (whatever the hell that means)," you stress.
Really?
Well ... I thought so.
Sincerely,
Ignignokt and Err
