Judge Rules Against PA Biology Curriculum
A federal judge ruled that "intelligent design" cannot be mentioned in the classroom.
U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III wrote in his ruling that "The citizens of the Dover area were poorly served by the members of the Board who voted for the the ID policy." Apparently the voters agree; because, in November, voters ousted 8 school board members who decided to turn science on its ear and claim that intelligent design had merit enough to be mentioned as an alternative to Evolution Theory.
Jones also found that this group of stalwart Christian soldiers "repeatedly lied to cover their motives, even while professing religious beliefs." This is a very important finding, in that, it recognizes that ID theorists hide behind a very, very thin veil of science as they try to impose their religious beliefs onto the nation's classrooms.
This is quite a fitting end to the farce that has taken place in Dover in the last year. The fight is far from over, however. The religiosos are gathering strength at the local level, where they hope to install school boards that are sympathetic, if not publicly supportive, of their agenda to turn classrooms into a weekday extension of Sunday school.
Please be aware of what your local candidates stand for and what they would do with the power of your vote. Just like termites, it's easy for them to get in and very difficult to get them out.

Free Press : media reform through outreach, activism, lobbying and networking
FreePress.net
The greatest strength of a democracy is an informed citizenry. There are powers within our government and Big Media that seek to keep the public uninformed, particularly as it relates to how they intend to manipulate and consolidate power into the hands of a few elite individuals and corporations.
Free Press is a non-partisan group that seeks to involve the public in media policy making. Please stop by the site, read a few articles, and sign up for an email list or two."A popular government without popular information or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy or perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance, and a people who mean to be their own governors, must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

Poor Kansas - Almost Makes You Feel Bad
Subway Sorry for Offending Kansas on Sign
From a PR point of view, I see why Subway had to pull the signs and apologize to Kansas, at least their franchisees there anyway. But since the Religiosos started reeking havoc on the Kansas State Board of Education in 1999, there are plenty of reasons to be glad not to be from Kansas - a flacid piece of greyish-pink salmon not withstanding.
It's latest jab into the eye of reason and emperical thought came back in November when, in a 6-4 vote (at least there are 4 reasonable people in the state), they decided to change the definition of science to include the search for supernatural explanations of natural phenomena.
Yes, there are plenty of reasons to be glad to be from places other than Kansas - at least if you consider yourself a person who is guided by intelligence and reason and not superstition and dogma.
