Yahoo! News - Autistic Boy Dies at Wis. Prayer Service
Let us believe, for the sake of giving the benefit of the doubt, that these people truly believed that what they were doing was somehow going to help this boy. Let us think that there was nothing but sincerity in their beliefs that they could petition their god out his busy schedule of running the universe to help this poor afflicted child. Let us believe that they had nothing but the best intentions for this child.
How then does a group of adults think that is perfectly fine to hold a child down and restrain him until he is suffocated by their weight? Was their zealotry so inflamed that they didn't realize the boy was dying? Perhaps the boys thrashing and gasping for precious air was interpretted as the work of the evil spirits that had caused his autism.
That thought sickens me. I see this poor child hovered over by these sweating, chanting religiophiles, admonishing the evil spirits, while they slowly pressed the air out of the child's lungs.
Only two people have been arrested, but everyone at that "exorcism" deserves to be held accountable for the boy's death.

Introducing Otto!
This is the official cyber-unveiling of Carroll's Otto of Offaly. He is our brand-new 8-week old Boxer puppy. He's good guy with a penchant for chewing. So far, the accidents have few, mainly because of the 24-hour wee wee patrol that has been posted.
He was joint B-day present for Aidan and Maeve, but so far he's turning into daddy's dog. But that may only be because I'm a master of the pooper scooper.

Pennsylvania, like many states, is in the middle of one its biggest budget crises in many years. So what are our elected representatives in Harrisburg doing?
A) Working harder. Working longer to resolve budget shortfalls with minimal affect on those who need their aid the most.
B) Contacting their constituencies to involve them in the difficult task of figuring out where the smaller revenues should go.
C) Figuring out viable alternatives to tax hikes and budget cuts.
D) Going on vacation.
If you chose A, B, or C, you obviously don't live in PA. That's right. With several billion in budget shortfalls and no real plan to fix the problem, our esteemed state legistors have decided to go on summer vacation instead of staying in town to do the work that they were elected to do.
With their vacation plans announced only yesterday, the fallout has begun already. Alcosan, Allegheny County Sanitation, the people who treat our sewage have already announced layoffs and as much a 15% hike in rates, because of the uncertainty of the state budget situation. The city of Pittsburgh is also getting in on the act with an announcement of 500 layoffs and steep cuts in many of its state-funded programs.
Of course, the partisan tongue-wagging has already begun, with Dems and Reps blaming each other for the impasse. And for once, their both right: they're all to blame. They vacation while those who rely on state assistance to get even the most basic of needs met, are left with worry and fear about what will happen next.
Bravo, Harrisburg. Bravo!
