Lest anyone forget:

Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United StatesI take the time to remind you of this not because I thought that war with Iraq was a bad idea (I still haven't completely made up my mind yet), but because of the witch hunt atmosphere that has blossomed in this country since 9/11.
Dissent is the key seperator of democracies and authoritarian states. Without the ability to dissent the majority wields their opinion like a hammer, smashing away at the very cornerstone of freedom: the freedom of speech--to express ones opinion regardless of its popularity or relevance.
If you don't understand this concept, you are not a patriot. You are a thug.

The Deepest Photo Ever Taken
Congratulations to roomate and best friend from college, Dr. Tom Brown, for the successful photograph of the deepest visible-light image ever captured. It is 6 billion (6,000,000,000) times fainter than what can be seen with the naked eye.
Tom is an astro-physicist working at the Space Telescope Science Institute. I remember when he told me about this particular project. He was very excited to have so much time using the Hubble Wide Field and Planetary Camera. Now all that time has paid off for him and his research team at SCSI.

The result could be the disappearance of the checks and balances provided by a competitive media marketplace -- and huge cutbacks in local news and reporting.
