Even though I'm still shiftless, I'm off for vacation. You may not believe it, but all of this loitering about has me tired to the bone. I need a rest! The family and I are off to the lovely Grand Canyon state for 7 full days of rest and relaxation.
The weather forecast looks great and the tickets are already paid for. Think of me and the above picture as you are all tied to desks for the next week. Hah! Hah!
I'll write of our adventures when we return. Auf wiederscrieben!

Join the Army and see the world. Visit foreign lands and meet interesting people ...
... including the beds of sons of deposed dictators. Uday's sense of style is ... uh, interesting. Do you think that in soldier Felicia Harris's wildest dreams she thought she'd pose for a picture like that when she enlisted? Somehow I doubt it.

Vertigo Then and Now
This site consists of various shots of before and after shots of the locations used in Hitch's Vertigo. I found these shots to be truly amazing, particularly the accuracy of the compositions. I don't know what the author used to capture the images--probably a mid-level digital camera, considering resolution and lack of granular degradation--but the work is great. Given that Hitch never worked with storyboards and there is probably not an existant shooting script, it appears that the movie was the only blueprint to go by. It truly is great work.
Most angles are reproduced faithfully. Lens choice seems to be kept to somewhere between 18 and 28 mm, which was probably also the case for the original Cinemascope footage. The color is obviously not the same, given that Vertigo was shot in technicolor. But the feel is preserved as much as possible. This is just good work and great way to use Web. Bravo.

Yes, I'm still alive. I've not become a victim of SARS, or been hit by an errant Tomahawk, or abducted by a wannabe cult leader (although Mr. Green comes close to that). I'm well and doing fine, as are the rest of the Carroll family here at Carroll Manor.
Although, I must admit that my job search has been a real kick in the sack lately. I've had a couple of really good opportunities dry up and blow away. Here's hoping that something else will come through. Luckily I'm not trudging around the desert with a 90 pound pack on my back or huddled in the corner of a dirt shack, wondering if the next bomb will fall on me. All things considered, I'm definitely doing better than that.
As you can tell from my previous post, I love my drums. If any of you dear readers are musicians and feel like getting together to jam with an experienced semi-pro drummer, let me know and we'll huddle in the corner of the Carroll Manor basement and push out some tastey grooves.
