Mr. Green and Co. have endevoured to entertain millions with a lively little video called Kitten Kommotion.
I recommend it for anyone who loves cats, young or old. It's a fun romp with seven cute kittens and a lively musical score. A portion of the proceeds go to Animal Friends. Have fun and help out at the same time. Go get one today!

Last night's dinner menu:
House Salad w/ Ranch Dressing
18 oz. Filet Mignon, Med. Rare
Homestyle Potato Chips
Loaf of Bread (approx. 10 inches long)
Carrot Cake
8 Glasses of Water
Afterwards, it was off to a great Irish pub for a Black Velvety (Half Guiness Stout and half Strongbow Cider). I was so full I nearly had to be carried back to my room. Argh!

So this is how it ends, not with a bang but with a whimper. It bites that the Steelers lost, but the vindication of Drew Bledsoe was great to see. He got a raw deal in NE; I hope that today's performance lands him on another team with a big fat contract. Way to go Drew! Way to go Steelers. It was a great season. Let's give it another go next year.
Anyway, thanks Steelers. Yinz are still da best!

WHO THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE!?
Outrage doesn't even begin to cover the extent of my upset at the narrow-minded, 17th century, so-called keepers of the peace in Pen Ryn, PA. It seems that they have voted, unanimously (I'm sure it was all very democratic), to not do crowd control for the annual YMCA triathalon, because of an after school program that includes the reading of passages from the Harry Potter books to children. They think the Y is promoting witchcraft and going against its godly mission as spelled out by its name. So the police will have no part of this triathalon of the damned.
Since when does a public safety department get the luxury of voting on what they will and won't protect based on the whimsy of their personal or political beliefs? Outrageous? Yes! Ridiculous? Yes! A fucking pathetic and intellectually inferior way to make a point? Hell, yes!
From under what type of primoidial sludge pile do people like this crawl; and moreover, how do we get them back there and out of positions of power within our society. It is shameful that in the richest country on Earth, with a functional illiteracy rate that towers near 25%, we should have public officials speaking out against programs that promote reading. I wonder if an illiterate ass from the Appalachian foothills could pass the civil servant's exam? Hmmm, I wonder?
Listen people; it's really quite simple: Do not ban books! Do not protest programs that get kids interested in books! Do not interfere with the cause of literacy! Even the damnable Harry Potter books are made only of paper, ink, and imagination. They are not harmful to the social or religious fabric. Only in a nation that breeds a fear of ideas can they do any damage.

Also, help me get the contact info for the Pen Ryn police department and the Pen Ryn Y so that I can post it here.

Strange conversations:
He: Isn't it strange that a baby should learn how to talk before being potty trained?
Me: Yeah, but it's wired to learn how to talk. I mean for going to the bathroom too, but only the how, not where and when.
He: But isn't that instinctual too? Cats will do it.
Me: No, you actually have to train cats to use a litter box. There were no litter boxes before domestication.
He: Yeah, but don't they naturally bury it or something?
Me: Sure. That's just survival, like you can't find my feces you can't find me.
Us: (Laughter)

Pittsburgh 27, Baltimore 10. Now maybe those loud-mouthed children in purple will limp out of their undeserved media spotlight for a while. And with heavy salary cap demands, it will be a few years before anyone hears about the Ravens again.
I watched a Behind the Music last night about The Cult. I was so into them in high school and college. Even their weaker songs inspired me to be a musician, let alone the great ones: She Sells Sanctuary, Love Removal Machine, Fire Woman, etc. They were a hard-charging bridge between the punk/new wave of the 80s and the hair metal/grunge scene of the early 90s. Many bands, including Guns & Roses and Stone Temple Pilots, owe a lot to these Biritish trailblazers.
To this day, when I hear those first four hi-hat beats on Love Removal Machine, I'm not able to sit still again until long after it's over.
1987's Electric, is one of the most raw and urgent albums that have ever been produced. Even the less popular Ceremony and Cult produced gems at a time when the band clearly lost it's way. But make no mistake, they are back! I just got last year's Beyond Good and Evil and it's got my head spinning. The melodies are intricate. Ian Astbury roars as good as ever. Billy Duffy pumps his guitar to eleven. And Matt Sorum holds it all together with angry thunder on the skins. Welcome back, guys!

Olympics Ban Skate Porn
And just when it was getting interesting. That's all I need is another reason to hate figure skating. The only reason I've ever watched it in the first place was to catch a titallating peek at naughty bits barely hidden in an all-too-revealing costume. Simulated sex and orgiastic delight, to me, was a definite perk. I guess I'll just have to keep my eye out for the pro competitions.
Why just a few weeks ago, Katerina Witt performed in an outfit that seemed to be completely transparent over her toned and taught bum. The girl who performed next (name not remembered) performed in a pseudo S&M latex get up that was much more interesting than her modestly done triple lutz will ever be.
Oh, well. I guess it's up to the spandex clad speed skaters to provide sexual provacation in Salt Lake.

Are we so self-absorbed and self-important that we would think, even just for a minute, that a captive rodent being forced out a hole in a log by a hamfisted, drunken reveler in a top hat would even register on a terrorist's radar? I guess so.
I mean really! Can you imagine: Glory be to Allah and his prophet Mohammed for striking at the devil's heart and collapsing his mighty World Trade Center and Pentagon, both symbols of the arabic peoples' repression! Praise Allah! Praise Allah! Hmm, what shall we do next? Yes, I know ... we will smite the evil groundhog and his profligate followers at Gobler's Knob! Jihad! Jihad! Jihad!
Well at least Tom Ridge will finally have something to do.

On the Implausibility of the Death Star's Trash Compactor
Joshua Tyree has a great take on this otherwise inscrutable topic. As an interaction designer, this bit of analysis is priceless. The only correct conclusion is that to truly be effective in the hostile domination of worlds and their peoples, evil empires must rely less on the animosity and furies of its warlords (Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin) and minions (Stormtroopers, Boba Fet) and much more on solid design concepts.

The mailbox on the corner of 4th Ave. and Smithfield St., Pittsburgh, PA.
I never thought that I would pass a mailbox and ask myself: I wonder why there is perfectly delicious looking roast beef and swiss cheese sandwich sitting on that mailbox? Today, I did.
I love sesame seed kaiser rolls.

I shoveled snow last night until my back groaned and complained. Fortunately, I finished before a full-scale revolt. As I walked up the basement stairs into the house, I was greeted with a chorus of "Da-da! Da-da! Da-da!" from a little Puck, who only moments before was lamenting my hour-long labor. Seems he stayed up just so he could say "Ni-ni" to his dear old dad. I'm glad he did.
The shoveling was good misogi. I'm very glad that my back is not sore today.

One small heartbeat. That's all it takes. All doubts fade and all fears are lessened. The days of uncertain knowing fade and assurance is given: you are officially a parent ... again.
That day was today, although I was unable to be a part of it. The pleasure that I got just looking at Sami's face was enough. If pregnant women glow, then, today, Sami was a blazing torch. She is currently between knowing that she is pregnant and not having anything to show for it. That is, her belly isn't getting big yet. But big belly or not, she heard Appleseed's heartbeat today. Now she's convinced that all the sickness has actually been for something.
What a gift to be able to carry another life. If I wasn't so busy being happy for her--and us, I might be jealous.

Just got back from visiting the in-laws in Savannah, GA. It's pretty cool place with a lot of history, although my first impression is that it's a great place to visit but not to live. I guess I'm more of a big city boy. And if not a city boy, definitely more of an up in the mountains kind of boy. Anyway it was great.
The in-laws bought themselves a big cushy house in a big cushy gated community. The backdoor looks out over the Georgia salt marshes and the eighth hole of one of six courses on the island. A cool place with a cool view, but I'm glad to be back in the Burgh.
So I'm back and will be back to daily posts for '02.
